Green Thinking

GREEN THINKING

We are very aware of the importance of sustainability in every area of our business and are always seeking to reduce our impact on the environment.

Recycled Acrylic

We use 100% recycled acrylic wherever possible.  At the moment, this generally includes 3mm & 5mm clear acrylic and products made from frosted black, gloss black or gloss opal/white.
The matt white acrylic that is popular for some of our hospitality products is not yet available as 100% recycled but, as outlined on the right, all acrylic is 100% recyclable.

Acrylic Recycling

Acrylic is fully recyclable. All our waste acrylic is collected for recycling in the UK (less than 30miles away).
It is then either returned to acrylic manufacturers for closed-loop recycling or it is pelletized and recycled to produce window frames, decking etc.

We also reduce our waste by donating usable off-cuts to local schools and community groups such as Men In Sheds.

Recycling Products

Acrylic is renown for its durability but if you bought some of our products some time ago and want to replace them, we will happily advise you about disposing of the old products.  Sadly, at the moment, acrylic is not accepted by most local authority recycling schemes but we may be able to direct you to other recycling schemes local to you or arrange for you to return your old acrylic to us to include in our recycling.

Wood

As we have begun to use wood for some of our products, we are committed to only purchasing wood that is certified as sustainable through reputable timber merchants that are FSC &/or PEFC certified.

The small amounts of waste wood we produce are broken up and passed on to be used as kindling.

Packaging - in

In-coming packaging is minimal but is always reused or recycled.

Pallets are handed back to suppliers or on to other users and the small amount of
in-coming cardboard that can't be reused, is broken up and recycled.

Packaging - out

All our out-going packaging is fully reusable and recyclable.
The boxes we use are pre-used and acquired locally.
Where possible, our wrappers and space-filling packaging are paper-based, at least partially recycled and fully recyclable.
Where plastic wrapping is required to protect the products, this contains at least 30% recycled material and is also fully recyclable.

Transport

We all live within 5 miles of our work premises so day-to-day mileage is very low.  Our materials are delivered from less than 50 miles away and ordered in large quantities to reduce the frequency of deliveries.

General Waste

Besides the recycled waste acrylic and wood (as detailed above) the only other waste produced by our workshop is:
- small amounts of paper and cardboard that are recycled separately
- small amounts of general, mixed waste, amounting to approximately one sack of waste per fortnight

Heat, light & water

Our manufacturing processes use no water and remarkably little electricity.  Laser-cutters don't draw a lot of power and many of our other processes involve hand-tools or small equipment.  Consequently our use of utilities is extremely low compared to most manufacturing businesses.
A key part of our ethos is wanting to leave a legacy that helps our environment, so we are working to support the planting of trees.  Please come back here for updates on how this progresses.
